Effects Of Cars In Our Society
Since the twentieth century, cars have been used as a mode of transport. Throughout the world, cars have become an accepted symbol in the transport industry. Being the most popular means to get by, their effect has been felt in the world. For developing countries, not many effects have been noted as in the first world countries that are more industrialized. There has been an increase in both the good and bad effects that the invention of cars has caused in society including the change in social infrastructure.
Noticing the great advantages that cars have brought us is very easy to do. We have clarified that cars have brought many job opportunities. Our unemployed youth have been the chief benefactors of these jobs. If the car manufacturing industry faltered, there would be a ripple effect created where several people would be left unemployed. When a car leaves the car dealer’s shop, the owner might decide to go fill the paperwork necessary for insurance and maybe hire a chauffeur to drive them around too. Refueling at a gas station is another stop that the owner of the car will have to make. When the car gets dirty, they stop at a car wash establishment and if the car needs servicing, they go to the mechanic. For economic growth, we need all these people actively working since they are affected by the car industry directly.
An effect that many overlook to the production of cars is that it has encouraged laziness in the human population. Waking has become a taboo. You find a person calling for a taxi while they could have just walked the short distance to wherever they are going. Some countries have fallen into a trap of auto-dependency where the citizens barely see the need for using a sidewalk and instead prefer the use of cars. Such countries usually have increased carbon emissions into the environment due to the use of cars powered by fuel. These kinds of emissions have led to the melting of the polar ice caps leading to a rise in the sea level.
We still need to keep in mind the effects cars have had in our lives, both the good and bad. If mother nature decided to fight against us, we would not stand a chance. Achieving a balance between technology and nature will ensure our survival in the long run.
